Digitalization of Mosque Management: Implementation of the E-Mosque App and Data-Driven Social Assistance Distribution

MALANG – (June 24, 2025) The Nahdlatul Ulama Institute for Research and Human Resource Development (Lakpesdam NU) in Malang, in collaboration with the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Brawijaya University (UB), successfully held a community service event at the Sabilillah Mosque in Malang. The event was titled “Digitalization of Mosque Management: Implementation of the E-Masjid Application and Data-Driven Social Assistance Distribution.” Held at Sabilillah Mosque in Malang, the event was led by Mr. Yusli Effendi, S.IP, M.A., as the chair of the community service organizing committee, with Mr. Arief Andy Soebroto serving as the keynote speaker. This community service initiative was driven by the essential need for well-documented and easily manageable mosque management systems.

The Chair of Lakpesdam NU in Malang City, Dr. Mohamad Anas, M.Phil., stated that this training on the digitalization of mosque management data is a strategic step in addressing the challenges of mosque management in the digital age. According to him, a mosque is not merely a center for worship but also a center for community service that must be managed professionally and accountably. Furthermore, the Chairman of Lakpesdam noted that this program also serves as a concrete manifestation of NU’s commitment to empowering mosques as centers of community civilization. He hopes this training will mark the beginning of a transformation toward more modern and inclusive mosque management, without compromising traditional and Islamic values.

In his presentation, Mr. Arief Andy Soebroto, drawing on his IT expertise as both an academic and a practitioner, provided a comprehensive overview of the creation and management of E-Masjid accounts—a digital mosque management platform designed to facilitate the digitization of various managerial aspects of mosques. The material presented covered the steps for digitizing the management of mosque administrative data to improve administrative efficiency, transparent and accountable financial recording and reporting, data collection on congregants to facilitate communication and the implementation of mosque programs, as well as computerized inventory and management of mosque assets.

The participants in this event consisted of representatives from Sabilillah Mosque and the five top-rated mosques in Malang City, which had been evaluated by the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) of Malang City. As a follow-up plan (RTL) following this community service initiative, the E-Masjid application will be directly implemented in all participating mosques. Thus, it is hoped that the implementation of the E-Masjid platform will serve as an innovative solution that not only enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of mosque management but also supports transparency and accountability in asset and financial management for the benefit of the community. The success of this community service initiative stands as tangible proof of a collaborative commitment to advancing mosque governance in the digital age.
